Jasango Theatre was founded in Galway in 2009 as a collaborative, multi-disciplinary company, bringing together musicians, visual artists and theatre practitioners to create multi-disciplinary theatrical events. Our areas of interest include; new writing, works by or for women, youth theatre and site-specific theatre. Jasango now has a second base in Tullamore, Co. Offaly and works in partnership with Galway City Council and Offaly Arts Office to create theatre which inspires and excites. A touring company, we travel nationally and internationally to showcase our collaborative productions. Jasango Theatre produced Joanna Murray Smith’s Bombshells to great acclaim. Described by critics as “jaw droppingly good” and “pitch perfect” the play toured nationally from 2009-2011. It was the highlight of The Theatre Stage at Electric Picnic two years running and was chosen as the Summer Theatre event at Fota House, Cork in 2010.
Jasango were invited to The Celtic Classic Festival in America where they performed Bombshells and completed a series of guest lectures in area schools. The production was voted “Best Play” and “Best Ensemble Act” in the 2010 Bethlehem Press Awards USA. The critics state-side said “simple, elegant and eloquent..extraordinarily talented women” – Bethlehem Press USA. Jasango has toured with it’s production of Geraldine Aron’s My Brilliant Divorce since July 2011 and the production has been receiving a similarily enthusiastic response nationwide. Critics have called the one-woman show “an applauded feat” and the tour continues indefinitely, such has been public demand. Jasango were also co-producers of Bo Leictreach Green Play Festival produced with Selkie Theatre USA and Birr Theatre in 2011 and 2012. In 2012 the festival commissioned a new play by Siobhan Donnellan "The Mire" produced by Jasango and Birr Theatre. A national tour is anticipated to kick off in 2014. In July 2012, Jasango devised and produced a site-specific play created with a group of young people; “Craic On The Canal”, based around the historic Bolands’s Lock in Tullamore. Also in July, Jasango premiered Angela Ryan’s For Penguin’s Sake at The Galway Fringe Festival. Directed by George B. Miller and featuring Lisa Daly, the play was described by Irish Theatre Magazine as “an aesthetically impressive production..truly sense-tickling theatre” To learn more about Jasango see www.jasangotheatre.org Follow Jasango on Facebook www.facebook.com/jasangotheatre Contact:086-3638758
