SCRIPTS Ireland’s Playwriting Festival

is an annual festival in Birr Co. Offaly dedicated to new Irish plays—the writing of them, the development and nurturing of them.  

Scripts 2021 took place from 12 - 15 August with Seán Denyer awarded the overall-winning playwright prize for his new work GhostBitch!

Our thanks to all our writers for their openness and creativity throughout the week.

Our special thanks to Fishamble and Jim Culleton, our professional actors Catherine Walsh, Gina Moxley, Charlie Bonner and Geraldine Plunkett as well as all guest judge David Horan, Pat Kinevane, Mari Kennedy, Grace Collender, Alan King of Youth Theatre Ireland and Dr Malie Coyne.

A nod too to our local actors Blaithnaid Ryan Purcell, Colm Hogan and Emma Parsons and all those who made Scripts 2021 such a special year.

A very special thank you to the staff at Birr Theatre & Arts Centre for their trojan work this year and to Susan Molloy for all her help to keep the festival ticking along!

We'll be back in the Autumn with a more news about our new initiative in partnership with Youth Theatre Ireland, the George B. Miller Award.
