Eugene O'Brien

EUGENE O’BRIEN mentors our selected playwrights throughout the festival. Eugene won the Irish Times Theatre Award, the Stewart Parker Award and the Rooney Prize for Literature for his play Eden. He also wrote the award-winning Pure Mule, the comedy film The Flag and had co-writing credits on famine drama Black 47; The Nest, Sloth and Numb for RTÉ Radio Drama and an adaptation of Roddy Doyle’s Barrytown Trilogy for BBC Radio Drama. Other theatre work includes Savoy, and collaborations with Pan Pan Theatre company including Mespil in the Dark, a six part web series. 2022 was a busy year for Eugene with his acclaimed film, Tarrac premiering at Galway Film Fleadh, while his play Heaven debuted at the Dublin Theatre Festival and his first novel,Going Back, was published.
